Black Honey - Reviewed

Indie rock group Black Honey are a fresh sounding, female vocalist lead band who are in the process of becoming more and more popular. Lead singer Izzy B Phillips often fashions some funky outfits and her vibrant stage presence adds an air of excitement to the whole persona of the 4 piece group originating from Brighton.

I was lucky enough to catch the end of their set at Leeds Festival 2015 and every moment entranced me, I only regret missing the majority of the set. Ever since this experience Black Honey have become one of my favourite upcoming bands with their easy listening sound and exclusive stage presence. Singles such as ‘Corrine’ and ‘Spinning Wheel’ incorporate the intriguing slow paced beginning with exceptional vocals before entering into a heavier sounding rage of brilliance. This theme seems to be reoccurring as the band continue to develop their style. ‘Spinning Wheel’ really shows off the range of versatile vocals on offer to the band and they work well with adapting to either a slow or fast paced sound. ‘Sleep Forever’ is a prime example of their ability to create a soothing yet thrilling atmosphere and before I discovered Black Honey I hadn’t yet found a band that has the ability to produce music that can relate to almost every mood.

I can only imagine the impact they will continue to make upon audiences and I expect big things in the future for Black Honey. I hope to see them return to Leeds Fest this year with an even bigger set.
