The Blinders: 'Brave New World' Reviewed
By Mica Rae
Wrathful political punk-esque three piece The Blinders deriving from Doncaster now based in Manchester credit the alternative music scene with their latest single release ‘Brave New World’; this track lyrically is lucidly genius carrying poetic undertones whilst radiating fury stemmed from the past present and current political corruptions. This track for me, visualises and represents the anger felt from particularly the youth of today who’s voices are seemingly weakened by those in power; ‘Brave New World’ is tailored to feed the hungry minds of the politically conscious whilst attacking the ignorance infused by social media creating a seamlessly prevailing sound laced with rage.
The Blinders have not only comprised a track that emits raw emotion they’ve intertwined a dystopian parallel to both Aldous Huxley’s and George Orwell’s literary masterpieces complementing the levels within ‘Brave New World’ - Huxley and Orwell were clear opposes of totalitarianism which I feel is reflected within this three-pieces latest release. The pure knowledge of understanding within the track only enhances admiration for these 3 guys in my eyes – to speak what others are often too shy to speak makes their voices and lyrics singular within the current alternative music platform.
Musically this track contains everything you’d hope it would alongside the refined lyrics; the bassline holds a catchy beguiling sound sweetly complimented by punchy short stop-starts specialising in something sharp yet captivating.
Accompanying this track is a music video adding a visual flair to an already compact sound; the juxtaposition of putting a clip of puppies alongside war clips and bombings heightens the dystopian feel entwined within ‘Brave New World’. Quick paced snippets of past and present global events/places within the music video matches perfectly to the pace of the track – just another thing executed smoothly by this stimulating three-piece.
I think it’s only fair to say The Blinders have truly caught my eye; a lot of admiration for this upcoming three-piece who have successfully ventured into the world of political-punk. Good things are coming for these boys, very good things.
Clean out your ears and prepare to feel the wrath.
